Week 13: Eagle Focus

Whats Others See

In preparation for our upcoming time together, we are going to look at the second myth which states “Others view me, the same way I view myself.” As we think about how others view us, think about your own personality type. A quick reminder of how this works with our four personalities. A Much-Loved Monkey may see herself as lovable, likeable, and lots of fun. A Leading Lion may view that Monkey as weak, soft, too nice, too talkative, and needy. A Camel might view the Monkey as loud, always late, too silly, distracted, and not detailed enough. The Turtle sees the Monkey as having too much energy, a lack of focus, or talking needlessly.

Do you see the math inherent in the 4 personalities? You view yourself one way, while the other 3 personalities (75%)all view you differently. Therefore, it is important to understand and value the diversity of personalities. It is wise to learn how others may view our own personality traits. I may not agree with you or your actions, but if I understand your personality makeup, I can better relate to and connect with you.

Our focus this session is on evaluating our behaviors in light of how others might view them and seeking improvement where needed.

Consider the Questions

Here are a few questions for your consideration to help you apply Myth Two:

  • What are some of your work behaviors?

  • Which ones are positive and effective practices?

  • Which ones might be worth changing or not doing at all?

  • How might others view your behaviors differently than you do?

Your answers will help you understand how Myth Two impacts your leadership. As you ponder these leadership questions, you might want to review chapters 2-5 of the Make a Difference book.

Remember to use your Eagle Teams Digital Notebook to document your thoughts and insights.
