Week 41: Eagle Focus

Building the Infrastructure

In this session, we will continue our discussion around the Relationship Triangle and how we can use it to establish stronger and effective relationships with diverse personalities. If you recall the story from last month, geese demonstrate two important principles: (1) that healthy, sustained relationships take work, and (2) the secret to healthy relationships is commitment - the choice to work and stay together.

Those who build high-flying, successful, trusting teams have a commitment to healthy relationships and work hard to sustain them.

Developing Relationships

To develop these types of relationships, there is a simple rule to follow: Healthy relationships require personal responsibility.

Healthy relationships do not simply happen - they must be developed over time and require a commitment to each other. This means making a choice. It begins with choosing to make the relationship a priority. We must choose to invest in the people we lead. We must even choose to invest unconditionally...even when others fail in the relationship.

Trust must be earned, by reaching out within our relationships and taking deliberate action to engage others. This is not easy, but will lead to building the infrastructure needed for strong and lasting relationships.

Next week we will discuss how we can apply the principles around The Relationship Triangle in order to build trust in our personal and professional relationships.

As we continue learning how to build infrastructure in our relationships, review chapter eight, pages 73-88 of the Make a Difference Book. If you have previously read these pages, simply take a few minutes to review it.

Remember to use your Eagle Teams Digital Notebook to document any thoughts and insights.
